Cavity Fillings

Cavity fillings are a common dental procedure used to restore a tooth that has been damaged by decay. When a cavity forms, it creates a hole in the tooth that needs to be addressed to prevent further decay and restore the tooth's structure.

The process begins with the dentist assessing the extent of the decay through examination and X-rays, followed by the administration of local anesthesia to ensure the patient’s comfort. The decayed portion of the tooth is then removed using specialized instruments, and the cavity is cleaned and disinfected to prepare it for the filling material. Various filling materials can be used, including amalgam, composite resin, glass ionomer, and resin ionomer, each with its own benefits. The chosen material is placed into the cavity, shaped to match the natural contours of the tooth, and polished to ensure a smooth surface. Cavity fillings help prevent further tooth damage, alleviate discomfort, and restore the tooth's function, allowing patients to maintain their oral health and enjoy their daily activities.

Regular dental check-ups and good oral hygiene are important for ensuring the longevity of the filling and the overall health of the teeth.
