Braces

Braces are orthodontic devices used to correct misaligned teeth and jaws, improve dental function, and enhance overall oral health. They consist of brackets that are bonded to the teeth and connected by archwires, which apply continuous pressure to gradually move teeth into the desired position. Braces can address various dental issues, including overcrowding, gaps between teeth, overbites, underbites, crossbites, and other malocclusions (bite problems).
Traditional metal braces are the most common type, but there are also ceramic braces that blend with the teeth, lingual braces that are attached to the back of the teeth, and clear aligners like Invisalign that are nearly invisible and removable. The duration of treatment with braces varies depending on the complexity of the case, typically ranging from one to three years. Regular adjustments by an orthodontist are necessary to ensure that the braces are working effectively and to make necessary modifications. After the braces are removed, retainers are often used to maintain the new position of the teeth and prevent them from shifting back.
